A true trans-continental love affair, Nick’s first contact with Cassie’s family came during the summer of 2004 when he was a camp counselor with Cassie’s brother in upstate New York, where they became fast friends.
After summer, Nick took a cross-country trip, planning to end up near Chico, CA, to visit some family friends. Fate stepped in, as Cassie was attending Chico State at the time, and her brother asked if she would show Nick around town while he was there.
What was planned as nothing more than a guided tour quickly became a friendship and then a romance. After three weeks together Nick’s visit to the US came to an end, whereupon he returned to New Zealand.
Nick & Cassie stayed in touch. Both just 18 and fully occupied with school on two different continents, they did not see each other again until 2012 when Nick returned to the US to attend a wedding in Texas. He made a stop in LA, and met up again with Cassie. The attraction was still there. Nick cut short his visit to Texas to spend a few more days with Cassie in Newport Beach before flying back to New Zealand.
Upon returning to New Zealand, Nick invited Cassie to join his family for the 2012 holidays there. She next traveled to New Zealand in the summer of 2013, and again in the summer of 2014. In December 2014, Nick traveled to Newport Beach to spend the holidays with Cassie’s family.
When Cassie returned to New Zealand in February of 2015, Nick proposed and the rest is history! We’re so glad Nick and Cassie found the Harborside and we’re honored to be a part of their unique love story.
